Through April and May 2017, traveling with a photographer friend who acted as my assistant and an interpreter who could get access to remote and secluded monasteries outsiders rarely see, I spent much time meeting and talking with Tibetan monks. I then asked for permission to photograph them as they went about their daily rituals and routines. While working on this series, I kept asking myself questions such as “what is my relationship with this world?”, “why can’t I live in one of these monasteries, many of them remote and not found on maps?” and “why is it that in our world we feel the need to control and rationalize and simplify everything to the extent that there is no more mysteries and secrets?”
